The society of French was divided into three estates in the 18th century.
1- First estate - Clergy
2- Second estate - Nobility
3- Third estate - Artisans, Traders, Peasants,Lawyer etc.
Only the members of first and second estates enjoyed some privileges by the birth. But it is nothing like this in the third estate. And only the members of third estate paid taxes.
