Human evolution is the evolutionary process that led to the emergence of anatomically modern humans, beginning with the evolutionary history of primates – in particular genus Homo – and leading to the emergence of Homo sapiens as a distinct species of the hominid family, the great apes. This process involved the gradual development of traits such as human bipedalism and language,[1] as well as interbreeding with other hominins, which indicate that human evolution was not linear but a web.[2][3][4][5]

The study of human evolution involves several scientific disciplines, including physical anthropology, primatology, archaeology, paleontology, neurobiology, ethology, linguistics, evolutionary psychology, embryology and genetics.[6] Genetic studies show that primates diverged from other mammals about 85 million years ago, in the Late Cretaceous period, and the earliest fossils appear in the Paleocene, around 55 million years ago.[7]

Within the Hominoidea (apes) superfamily, the Hominidae family diverged from the Hylobatidae (gibbon) family some 15–20 million years ago; African great apes (subfamily Homininae) diverged from orangutans (Ponginae) about 14 million years ago; the Hominini tribe (humans, Australopithecines and other extinct biped genera, and chimpanzee) parted from the Gorillini tribe (gorillas) between 8-9 million years ago; and, in turn, the subtribes Hominina (humans and biped ancestors) and Panina (chimps) separated 4-7.5 million years ago.

Question

Explain about the human evolution

Answer

The evolution of man is something which has been debated for years and will be for many years to come. Modern man scientifically called Homo sapiens has evolved as years passed down the line. It all began from Ramapithecus which were existing 15 millions years ago(Mya) . They were probably not taller than 4 feet but walked upright . Then 2 Mya there came Australopithecus who lived in East African Grasslands. They hunted for food with stone weapons but mainly ate fruits.

The first Human like being was Homo habilis . Their brain capacities were 650–800cc. They didn't eat meat. Next came the Homo erectus who had a large brain if around 900cc. They ate meat. The Neanderthal man with brain size of 1400cc lived 1 lakh to 40 thousand years ago. They used hides to cover their body and buried their dead. Homo sapiens arose in Africa and got distributed throughout the globe. Agriculture came around 10 thousand years ago. The rest what happened is history.
