1. In India today, farmers are not properly organised. They are allowing many middlmen to erode the profits from sale of their products. The price which the consumer in big cities pays is high but what the farmer gets is low. They need to organise themselves so that they have their own mechanism for distribution so that they make more profits. For doing this, one serious input is education. If many of them are educated, this will give them enough CONFIDENCE to organise this. If they remain simpletons, smart city people will take advantage of them.
2. They also need to know about state of the art farming methods. This will give them greater productivity. They need to pool their lands, use mechanisation, use latest hybrids, use latest irrigation methods and take advantage of farming research done in India and all over the world.
These are two major reasons how education will help farmers.
3. In any case, as citizens, they need to vote properly. Education is an important input for this.
4. They should be able to know their legal rights and legal avenues available for their problems.

Answer:
Literacy is most commonly defined as the ability to read and write.
But it’s not as simple as it sounds. Reading and writing abilities vary across different cultures and contexts, and these too are constantly shifting.
Nowadays, ‘reading’ encompasses complex visual and digital media as well as printed material. An elderly person who can read the newspaper might struggle to get information from Google.
Similarly, different cultures will have different perceptions of literacy. The writing traditions of the English language make reading comprehension an essential part of literacy, but this might not be as important in cultures or groups that rarely read printed material.
