Rancidity can be prevented by adding antioxidants to foods containing fats and oils. ... Rancidity can be prevented by storing food in air tight containers because in airtight containers there is little exposure to oxygen then oxidation of fats and oils present in food is slowed down and thus rancidity is retarded.

Explanation:

Rancidity occurs mainly in food containing fats and lipids. it occurs due to oxidation of fats when they are kept in open air, exposed to the environment. When fats become rancid they produce foul smell taste bad.

therefore some measures to avoid rancidity are:-

1. keeping foods containing fats like biscuits, potato chips etc in air tight container to protect them from the environment.

2. Many "Namkeen" making industries fill there food packaging with a inert gas such as nitrogen to protect them from open air and thus prevent rancidity.

3. Pickles are protected from rancidity by submerging them in oil which prevents their contact with environment.
