The First World War had many causes, aggressive nationalism and race for armaments to name a few; but perhaps the most important cause was the Sarajevo Crisis. The heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Hapsburg dynasty was assasinated by an organisation called 'Black hand' of Siberia on June 28, 1914. Austria-Hungary served an ultimatum to Siberia. Siberia accepted most of the conditions yet rejected a few. As a result, Austria-Hungary launched an attack on Siberia. Russian started supporting Siberia, but Germany started war against Russia, and later, France. The German Army swept across Belgium to attack France and on the same day, Britain launched an attack on Germany. Italy joined the war against Germany.
Britain, Russia, Italy and their allies were called the Allied Powers.
Germany, Austria-Hungary and their allies were called the Central Powers.
The war ended on the defeat of the Central Powers. The Treaty of Versailles was signed as a consequence and The League of Nations was started to stop any more destructive wars.
The Rohmanov, the Hohenzollern, and the Hapsburg dynasties came to an end. Austria-Hungary became independent states.
