For example, if you read the value of the graph shown below at a particular time, you will get the acceleration of the object in meters per second squared for that moment.

Here's the explanation........

In a ( v-t ) graph the slope of the graph gives the acceleration . There can be 3 cases :

1. case 1

when the graph is a st. line parallel to the x axis then the acceleration is zero as the velocity or speed is constant . also the slope is 0 .

2. case 2

when the graph is a st. line making an acute angle with the x axis . here the slope is positive and hence the body is accelerating and vel. is changing with time .

3. case 3

when the graph is a st. line making an obtuse angle with the xaxis the body is deaccelerating as the slope is negative .

acceleration is equal to the change in velocity .
