Now understanding concepts:
Prepration of soil involves two steps.
- Ploughing/Tilling
- Levelling
◆ Ploughing → The process of turning the few inches of the top soil is called ploughing. It is also called tilling. It is done by agricultural implement "plough".
◆ Levelling → It is the process of making the soil even by crunching the big lumps of soil for uniform irrigation. It is done by agricultural implement "leveller".
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
◆ Firstly the seeds are selected before sowing them , as damaged seeds can cause damage to other seeds.
◆ Sowing → The process of putting seeds into the soil.It is done by agricultural implement "seed drill". It can also be done by hands (called broadcasting).
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
◆ Nutrients like manure and fertilizers are added to the soil for better crop yield.
◆ Manure → They are organic substances made by the decomposition of dead animals and plants.
◆ Fertilizers → They are inorganic substances made in the factories using chemicals.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
◆ Irrigation → The process of supplying sufficient water required by plants.
◆ Modern methods → Sprinkler system, drip irrigation, furrow irrigation etc.
◆ Traditional methods → Moat, rahat, chain pump etc.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
◆ Weeding → The process of removing weeds (unwanted plants) from the field. It can be done by spraying weedicides or cutting it by tool called "trowel".
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
◆ Harvesting → The process of cutting down the matured crops from the field is called harvesting. It can be done by combine or harvester.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Post harvesting includes two steps:
◆ Threshing → The process of separating grains from the matured crops is called threshing. It can be done by thresher or combine.
◆ Winnowing → The process of separating grain from chaff is called winnowing.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
◆ After all these steps, grains are left to dried in sun.
◆ Then, grains are stored in silos and granaries.
