The Compound AlCl₃ is a covalent compound whereas MgCl₂ is an ionic compound. Covalency is a type of bond which occurs when two atoms mutually share their electrons to form a Covalent Compound. So, it is quite clear that AlCl₃ is covalent in nature but MgCl₂ is ionic in nature, In simple words, MgCl₂ has no covalency. Therefore, AlCl₃ is more covalent than MgCl₂.

I hope this helps.
