In battery technology, a concentration cell is a limited form of a galvanic cell that has two equivalent half-cells of the same composition differing only in concentrations. One can calculate the potential developed by such a cell using the Nernst equation.

Apart from two major types of cells, they are Metal-Ion Concentration Cells, Oxygen Concentration Cells.

1.metal -lon concentration cell--The concentration cells are used to determine the solubility of sparingly soluble salts, valency of the cation of the electrolyte and transition point of the two allotropic forms of metal used as electrodes, etc.

2. Oxygen Concentration Cell--Oxygen concentration cells occur where an electromotive force (EMF) results due to the concentration differences of reactive constituents involving the electrolyte solution at varying areas on the metal substrate.
