Human digestive system starts from mouth and ends at anus.

» At first the mouth. Mouth leads to buccal cavity; which contains teeth and tongue.

» The buccal cavity leads to pharynx (common passage for food and air). The oesophagus (food pipe) and trachea (wind pipe) opens into pharynx.

» Oesophagus is a thin long tube which opens into a J shaped bag like structure called stomach.

» The stomach opens into the first part of small intestine namely duodenum.

» Small intestine consists of duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Ileum opens into large intestine.

» Large intestine consists of caecum, colon and rectum. Colon further divides into ascending, descending and transverse colon.

» The descending part of colon opens into rectum which opens out through anus.
