Azimuthal quantum number, l = 2 (l = 0 for s ; 1 for p ; 2 for d and 3 for s)

d orbital contains 2l + 1 orbitals = 2 x 2 + 1 = 5 orbital

These are -2 -1 0 +1 +2

Since in 3d5 there are 5 electrons, each occupy 1 orbital, and last electron occupies +2 orbital

It is the only electron in +2 orbital, therefore it has clockwise spin

Hence, spin quantum number, s = +1/2
