Explanation:

aluminium is the metal because it have the physical properties of metals.

silicon is the metalloid because it has the properties of both metals and non-metals.

phosphorus is non metal because it has the properties of non metals

The fact that  aluminium 13 is a metal silicon is a metalloid and phosphorus 15 is a non metal can be explained by looking at their respective electronic configurations.

  • Aluminium has 3 electrons in its outer most shell, so in order to attain it is easier for it to lose 3 electrons than gaining 5 electrons. So, it acquires a positive charge by losing those 3 electrons and hence, is a metal.
  • Silicon has 4 electron in its outer shell, so it can either lose or gain 4 electrons in order to attain octet, hence it shows both metallic and non- metallic behaviour.
  • phosphorous having 5 electrons in its outermost shell gains 3 electrons to attain octet, and hence is a non-metal.
