Explain amphoteric nature of water. And its examples?

Water is amphoteric in nature. It acts as a base as well as an acid in a reaction.

A base has OH- ions. Water also has them.
An acid has H+ ions. Water also has them.

H+ + OH- → HOH(that is, H2O)
