explain angle of contact and state it's characteristics
Answers
Answer:
Angle of contact can be defined as : When a liquid is in contact with a solid, the angle between tangent drawn to the free surface of the liquid and the surface of solid at the point of contact measured inside the liquid. The characteristics are as follows : ... Its value depends on nature of liquid and solid in contact.
Angle of contacts.....
When a liquid is in contact with a solid, the angle between tangent drawn to the free surface of the liquid and the surface of solid at the point of contact measured inside the liquid. .....
Characteristics of angle of contacts....
(1) The angle of contact is constant for given solid- liquid pair .
(2). when angle of the contact is small ( in between the liquid and solid surface) ,then the liquid is said to be wet surface.water is wet glass.
(3). when the angle of contact is large then the surface is not wetted. Mercury is not wetted suface.
(4) If their is a presence of impurities in Water it changes the value of angle of the contact.
(5). for the liquid which completely wet the solid , the angle of the contact is equal to zero.
