Welcome student,
Gr. 13 of modern periodic table consists of B, Al, Ga, In, Ti & Nh.
◆ Anomalous behaviour of boron -
- Boron has very small atomic size & high electronegativity as compared with other gr. 13 elements.
- Boron involves in covalent bonding while other gr. 13 elements form ionic bonds.
- Boron has vacant d-orbitals with max covalence 4.
- Boron trifluoride is a lewis base while other gr. 13 trifluorides are lewis acids.
- Melting & boiling points of boron are much higher than that of other gr. 13 elements.
- Boron is the only element of gr. 13 that shows allotropy.
Hope this satisfied you.
