Antibodies (immunoglobins) are Y-shaped proteins produced by B cells of the immune system in response to exposure to antigens.The Rh factor was discovered in 1940 by Landsteiner and Wiener. 5 Rabbits were injected with the blood of the rhesus monkey (Macacus rhesus). Following a series of injections their serum clumped the red cells of the monkey, as was to be expected, but also the red cells of about 85 per cent of human beings
