The French colonisers introduced Western education in Vietnam to fulfill their own interest. But it was not followed uncritically by the teachers and students of Vietnam.

(i) Teachers and students did not blindly follow the curriculum fixed by the French authority. Sometimes teacher quietly modified the text and criticised the matter.
(ii) A Vietnamese girl student of Saigon Native Girls School refused to vacate her front seat for a local French student and was expelled from the school. This incident ultimately led to a bigger movement.
(iii) Students formed different political parties like Young Annan to fight for their own interest.
(iv) Students published many nationalist journals like, the ‘Annanese Student’ to express their view against colonialism.
