1. British thought that forests are unproductive, so they extended agricultural region so it will add to income of state
2. growing demand for timber for ships of royal navy and their timber was not enough so they move to india
3. growing demand for railway fuel and railway lines
4. encouragement to commercial farming of crops such sugarcane ,cotton etc
5. deforestation for plantation to meet the growing demands of European market for goods like coffee and tea
