1) Service sector consists of the production of services instead of in products and includes pharmacy mass media tourism telecommunication etc.

2) It helps in the development of the primary and secondary sectors.

3) Since these activities generates services rather than goods the tertiary sector is also called the service sector.

4) Service sector also includes some essential services that may not directly help in the production of goods for example teachers doctors lawyers and people to do administrative and accounting works.

5) As more and more people are being employed to provide the basic services to the people share of the tertiary sector in the GDR is increasing.
