Five reasons for water scarcity in India are :

(i) Seasonal and annual variation in precipitation.

(ii) Unequal access.

(iii) Over exploitation.

(iv) Availability of water varies over space and time.

(v) Excessive use of water resources.

REASONS FOR WATER SCARCITY:

1) Growing population: Growth of population in many of the cities is one of the main reasons for water scarcity.

2) Over Usage: Usage of water resources should be optimum. Over usage of water makes the water resource scarce.

3) Pollution of water bodies: Many water bodies are polluted highly which makes it unfit for use which eventually makes the water resources scarce.

4) Less Rainfall : Due to variation in Rainfall every year, less rainfall leads to less amount of water resources.

5) Exploitation of fresh water resources directly corresponds to scarcity in drinking water sources.
