1) The british consider forests as wildernesses which had to be bought under cultivation to enhance the income of the state.
2)They directly encouraged the production of cash crops like jute, cotton, wheat etc.
3)Need for sleepers in railway building.
4)The forests in India were cut at massive scale to meet the needs of timber.
5)British gave vast areas to European planters at cheap rates.
