1. mining: mining is one of the most important reason for land degradation. in states like jarkhand, chattisgarh , madhya pradesh and odisha mining have caused many land degradation.

2. errosion: loss of vegetative cover has made land more susceptible to erosion.agents of erosion like wind and water have left vast tract of land . water erodea top soil. the annual loss caused by water of erosion of topsoil is 12, 000 crores..

3. pollution: roughly0.8 mha of land in india are despoiled due to open or surface and underground mining activities. .8

4. excessive population pressure on land: indias population of over 1000 million people is more than that of the whole world prior to the industrial revolution. .
