There are so many direct and indirect factors responsible for poverty in India.
- High level of illiteracy
- Rapid growth of Population
- Low agricultural productivity
- Unequal distribution of land and other assets
- Lack of employment opportunities
- Caste system
- Joint family system
- Corruption
- Lack of governance
- Lack of Infrastructure
All above factors are responsible for poverty in India.
In my opinion, is the backward thinking of the whole country. It's a common thinking of every indian that has been instilled in his/her mind since childhood that he has to work hard for the sole purpose of making money so that the ‘so called screwed up society’ can appreciate that person. Most who are afraid of this notion find another alternative in the form of beggary. Rather than focussing on excellence and perfection, they tend to work toward the aim of making money which itself is not a means to an end.
When a family is below poverty line, they train their children to do the same thing rather than supporting them to do something great. Many people in the world have the power to change this and most of them are sitting on their comfy sofas and reading.
With poor thinking comes poor situation and hence a poor person.
