The conditions for the formation of an electrovalent bond are as follows:
The atom which changes into cation (+ ive ion) should possess 1,2 or 3 valency electrons. It will loose these electrons to form cation with +1,+2 or +3 charge.
The atom which changes into anion (− ve ion) should possess 5,6 or 7 electrons in the valency shell. It will gain 1,2 or 3 electrons to form anion with −1,−2 or −3 charge.
