Pholem is another transport system in plant that carries food of sucrose , a type of sugar from the leaves to other part plant parts. Sucrose is an end product of photosynthesis.
It is a complex permanent tissue present almost parallel to xylem . In this contrast to xylem , this consists of living cells called Sieve tube elements called and Sieve tube have elements . the end and side walls of sieve tubes have sieve areas which follow soluble substance to pass through . Once food molecules enter the pholem , they are transported upward , downward or in lateral directions . Pholem transport is bi-directional. This means that transportation occurs in two directions.
