Political cause : when Louis XI ascended the throne he found empty treasury. And also the money collected by tax was going in paying the loan for the palace at Versailles. He decided to increase the taxes but the the people got angry
Social cause: only the third estate had to pay all the taxes. First and the second estate were exempted from paying taxes and also enjoyed many privileges
Immediate cause : it was the storming of Bastille
Broken chain stands for the act of becoming free
Bundle of rod shows that strength lies in unity
