Three main outcomes of the Lok Sabha elections of 1977 are:-
- This was the first time when congress did not win the majority in the history of independent India. Thus, resulting in the defeat of congress under the leadership of Indira Gandhi.
- This was also the time when the opposition parties started forming alliances against the Indira party. Resulting in the election of India's first non-congress Prime Minister Morarji Desai.
- This was also the time when congress got defeated very badly in the states of Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Moreover, Congress was able to win only one seat in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
