Environment is at great threat because of following reasons :
1.Increase in pollution:
Economic development of our country has increased the pollution level too. According to recent study by WHO, Delhi is most polluted city in the world .Effluents from Industries are discharged into the river water, sea or lakes which affect the aquatic life and use of pesticides and insecticides in agriculture affects the whole ecosystem
2. Deforestation:
Forests are cleared for the infrastructure development, timber and other uses. Forest cover has decreased all over the world.
3. Increase in population:
Population all over the world is increasing at faster rate. This has increased pressure on resources . To meet the demand of increasing population, rapid exploitation of resources takes place.
4. Degradation of land:
Intensive agriculture, salnization and deforestation etc. degrades the land. Hence, it directly and indirectly affects environment of that area.
5. Increase use of green house gases:
Increase in CO2 emission has led to increase in temperature which has affected the environment by increasing severe weather events like drought and flood etc.It has also contributed in global warming. Glaciologist has analysed that Himalayas have lost 13 per cent of glaciers in four decades due to global warming.
