According to the census 2011, India had 940 women per 1000 male and UNICEF has labeled it as an alarming concern.

People in India have an inclination for male babies which have prompted the people to engage in female feticides.

Couples vie for male children so despondently that even after having one, they don’t stop and go on producing babies.

Further, the incidents like domestic violence, dowry death etc have also fueled the declining sex ratio in India.

Answer:

Sex ratio is nothing but the estimate of "number of females per thousand males".

Explanation:

The three reasons why it is declining. They are:

1. Inequality between men and women since their birth

2. Literacy rates

3. Female infanticide and feticide

4. More number of accidents and disasters in a particular region

5. Pre-Natal Determination to know the sex of the baby before birth will make the parents aware of their gender which leads to abortion of female child and infanticides.
