Challenges faced by jute industry
The two challenges faced by the jute industry in India are
(i) Stiff competition in the international market from synthetic substitutes.
(ii) Supply competition from other jute producing nations like Bangladesh, Brazil, Philippines, Egypt and Thailand. Government Step to Stimulate Jute Demand
To stimulate the demand for jute, the government has introduced a policy of mandatory use of jute packaging.

Challenges faced by jute industry in India :
1) Stiff competition : Jute industries face hard competition from Brazil, Thailand, Bangladesh and Egypt whose production cost of jute textile is much lower than that of India.
2) Lowers soil fertility : As jute exhausts soil fertility very fast and also bexause of its low profits , farmers now prefer to cultivate alternative crops like Rice.
