1. Acid are Sour in taste.

2. Acid are Soluble in Water.

3. All acidic solution conduct electricity.

4. Acid turns Blue litmus to red.

5. Acids are corrosive in nature they can destroy paper cloth metal exactly. Thus acid stored in glass containers instead of metal containers.

6. Most of the acids reacts with metal to form hydrogen gas and respective salt. for example :

7. Most of the acids react with metal carbonate to form respective salts, water and carbon dioxide for example :

 \sf \: Na_2CO_3  \: + \:  H_2SO_4  \: \longrightarrow  \: Na_2SO_4  \: + \:  CO_2 + H_2

8. Acid react with base to form respective salts and water.

We know that the taste of curd, lemon juice, Orange juice and vinegar is sour. These substances taste sour because they contain acid in it. The word acid comes from the Latin word acidus which means sour.

Those acids which are found in plants and animals are called organic acids and the acids which are prepared from the minerals of the earth are called the mineral acids.
