answer

The cells of the epidermis give rise to a number of protuberances which vary markedly in their shape, structure and function. These are known as trichomes. These appendages can be unicellular or multicellular. The unicellular trichomes are usually simple, unbranched (sometimes also branched) and elongated structures.
