Major factors which bring a Tropical monsoon climate to India are
Himalayas - blocks the monsoon current and diverts it along the Northern plains, resulting in rain to feed most of the rivers of Northern India and Pakistan. Without it, monsoon winds will just blow away making the Peninsula and Gangetic plains a barren land devoid of rainfall.
Location - Being in Tropic, this makes the Sub-continent to get hotter during summer making a heat low over North west India which pulls the winds from both the seas.
