In Belgium, earlier all the power was under the Dutch speakers. Which was often opposed by the french because their rights were not considered as important as of the Dutch. The govt. further decided to give equal rights to the ditches and French. This further lowered the chances of conflict between the 2 groups.

In Sri Lanka, the sanhalis were the majority groups and thus, the power was given into their hands. Sinhalis wanted to rule on the whole countries. Thus, their religion and the language were considered official by the government. Which led to a big conflict between the Tamils and the sinhalis.
