The food after digestion and absorption is assimilated into body substances and protoplasm of thecells. Carbohydrates and amino acids are both absorbed into the blood stream surrounding the small intestine and are passed to the liver via the hepatic portal vein.

↪Carbohydrates:-Most of the glucose is stored in the liver or in the muscles as glycogen and fats. The fats in the body are oxidised during respiration.

↪Protein : - Amino acids are used for the synthesis of new protoplasm, the repair of damaged parts of the body and the function of enzymes and hormones. Excess amino acids are deaminated in the liver as they cannot be stored. These are then excreted out of the body through the urine.

↪Fat :- The final products of fat digestion - fatty acids and glycerol - are absorbed in the blood stream through the lacteals. In the body, they are again converted into fats and excess fats are stored in

adipose tissue.
