Tropical deciduous forests are called monsoon forest. They are known as a deciduous forest because of the ability to lose their leaves annually. Tropical deciduous forest spread in the area which receives annual rainfall about 70 cm to 200 cm.

The tropical deciduous forest is divided into two types.

1. Tropical moist deciduous vegetation- These trees can sustain in the areas having moderate rainfall 150-200 cm.These trees have dense undergrowth and they shed their leaves during the dry season. Common trees of the moist deciduous forest are Sal, teak, sandalwood etc.

2. Tropical dry deciduous vegetation-These trees can sustain in the areas where rainfall is less than 150 cm. These trees are less than 25 m high and the undergrowth of these trees are shrubby and grassy. Common trees of the moist deciduous forest are Tendu, Bel, and Palas etc.
