Stars twinkle because the light of stars before reaching the earth surface has to cross different layers of atmosphere...and gets bend...so it appears to twinkle.

Stars are so far from us and they became a point source for us. refractive index of atmosphere keeps changing. Lights do not travel in a straight line.
