NH4OH is ammonium hydroxide and whenever a subtance basic in nature in water is dissolved/reacted with water produces OH(hydroxide). ... NH3 + H20 = NH4 + OH , as nitrogen on ammonia has lone pair of electrons it acquires proton from water showing its basic nature.
