Bell Jar Experiment: Take an airtight glass bell jar and an electrical bell. Suspend the bell in the jar and connect the jar to a vacuum pump. When you suck and release the air in the jar you will observe the following.

Explanation: When you switch the bell 'on', you will be able to hear the bell. But when you start the vacuum pump and suck the air from the jar, the sound becomes fainter though the bell is passing the same currents. This is because, sound requires a medium to travel through. So when you suck the air out, there is no medium through which the sound waves can travel. Later, as lesser air is left inside the jar, you will hear a very feeble(faint) sound.
