In order to overcome the objections raised against the Rutherford's model, Neil bohr's put forward a revised model of atom. The main postulates of the model are as follows :
- Atom contains a nucleus in its centre. The nucleus contains all the positive charge and mass of atom.
- There are present certain circular paths around the nucleus in the atom. These paths have fixed amount of energy. These paths are called orbits or energy levels and symbolised as K, L, M, N.
- Orbits contain only those electrons which are allowed by their own energy
- While revolving in orbits, the electrons don't radiate their energy.
- When energy in form of heat is given to atom, the electron capture it, and move to higher orbits. On returning to their own orbits, released the absorbed energy in form of light.
