EXPLANATION :-

The Bohr-Sommerfeld model depicts an atom as a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by the electrons. These electrons travel in circular orbits around the nucleus—similar in the structure to the solar system, except electrostatic forces rather than gravity provide attraction.

→ The Bohr model is important because it was the first model to postulate the quantization of electron orbits in atoms.

LIMITATIONS OF BOHR'S MODEL :-

  • It could not explain the distribution and arrangement of the electrons in atoms.

  • Sommerfeld's model was unable to explain the spectra of alkali metals such as sodium, potassium etc.

  • It could not explain Zeeman and Stark effect
