when you switch on the PC, at first hardware tests are conducted like HDD conditions, peripherals connected, processors conditions etc.Then a program known as bootstrap get called from EEPROM to load the drivers, necessary OS files, initial system softwares etc from HDD/SSD to the RAM.Then the execution of these things takes place and you see the home screen of your OS.Just think how fast is this process...SO now I believe that you understood the role of the bootstrap program in booting procedure.It is used for the initial preparation of system and loading of files into the primary memory.
