The Right to Education Act 2009, also known as the RTE Act 2009, was enacted by the Parliament of India on 4 August 2009. It describes modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children aged between 6-14 years in India under Article 21 (A) of the Constitution of India.

Right to Education Act :-
- The 86th Constitution amendment inserted Article 21-A in the Constitution.
- It said that State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years in such manner as the State may, by law, determine.
- The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act' or 'Right to Education Act also known as RTE', is an Act of the Parliament of India which describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India under Article 21A of the Indian Constitution.
- The declining educational outcomes reflected in lower reading levels are areas of major concern.
- According to Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2014, there is sharp decline in the number of children in Standard V who can read a textbook of Standard II, in both government and private schools.
