Carbon is a chemical element with symbol C and atomic number 6. It is a versatile element and is found in many different chemical compounds. The versatile nature of carbon can be best understood with its features such as tetravalency and catenation.
☆ multiple bonds: carbon is able to form multiple bonds with other elements which can be single double or triple. forming the compounds ending with ane, ene and yne. ex: propane, propene, propyne etc.
☆ tetravalency: it can form bonds with many elements at once.
