An archegonium also occurs in some gymnosperms, e.g., cycads and conifers. A flask-shaped structure, it consists of a neck, with one or more layers of cells, and a swollen base—the venter—which contains the egg.

Archegonium is the sex organ of a female that is present in the gymnosperms, pteridophytes and bryophytes.
The pteridophytes and bryophytes are the ones that have a swollen venter attached to them with the addition of a tubular neck.
It also contains the gamete of the female anatomy that is known as an egg.
