When pressure on a gas is increased, its molecules closer together, and its temperature is reduced, which removes enough energy to make it change from the gaseous to the liquid state.

Gas can be liquified through a few ways, although the most common is bringing the gas to a temperature and pressure point where liquidification or condensation can occur.
For example, liquid nitrogen must be brought to a very low temperature (compared to Standard Temperature and Pressure (S.T.P.), but not to absolute zero) and under high pressure to compress the gas. The gas, once liquidification begins and a liquid begins to form, is brought to a lower pressure. The air, now expanding, cools very quickly.
I hope this helps, it might not be completely correct. It is based on my own knowledge and what I learned from my chemistry courses
