Explain briefly isogamy with suitable example.

● It is a type of sexual reproduction involving the fusion of morphologically-similar gametes. This means that the gametes are of the same size, but perform different functions. This type of reproduction is commonly observed in SPIROGYRA.

Isogamy:

Isogamy is defined as type of fertilization where both male and the female gamete is identical in fields of everything like shape, size, color everything.

This Isogamy is a very primitive character, which means it is seen in very lower organisms. The isogamal gametes are only differentiated by means of genetic composition.

For example, the green algae Chlamydomonas show this type of reproduction. Fertilization occurs when gametes of "two different mating" types fuse to form "zygote".
