Answer:

Physics - Concepts - Velocity and Acceleration

An object in motion is said to have velocity or acceleration. While we are all used to the word "speed," this word does not truly quantify any useful measurements in science since it is a measure of scale.

Velocity is the preferred measure of "speed" when dealing with anything scientific as it can be quantified based on distance traveled. This is presented by some number over distance traveled - like 70 km/h.

This formula demonstrates how velocity is determined

Acceleration is another one of those tricky words. We are familiar with the accelerator pedal (gas pedal) on a car, and rightly defined as detonating additional gas and air produces more combustion resulting in a faster turning engine. However, this is only half of the story.

Acceleration is defined as any change in vector. This means that a car that speeds up, slows down, turns left and turns right is undergoing acceleration. We have already seen velocity: distance traveled in a particular time frame. This is taking into account a constant speed. In order to determine acceleration, we need to document any changes in velocity over time:

To add to some confusion, it is possible to have negative acceleration. An example would be a car traveling in reverse. A car slowing down is also negative acceleration due to opposing forces.

✒ Acceleration

  • Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with time.
  • It is defined as change of velocity of body per unit time.
  • SI unit of acceleration is m/s²
  • It is Vector Quantity.
  • Acceleration = Change in velocity / time

= Final velocity - Initial velocity / time

= v - u / t

✒ Types of Acceleration

✏ There is two types of Acceleration

1. Uniform Acceleration

  • If the velocity changes in equal amounts in equal time of intervals and the object travels in a straight line than the uniform acceleration take place.

2. Non-uniform Acceleration

  • If the velocity changes in an equal amount in unequal intervals of time and object travels in straight line then non uniform acceleration take place.

-----------------------------------------

-: Additional Information :-

-----------------------------------------

✏ Zero Acceleration -

if the change in velocity is zero that is either object is at rest or moving with uniform velocity than zero acceleration will take place.

✏ Positive Acceleration -

When velocity of a body increases then positive acceleration take place.

i.e v>u

✏ Negative Acceleration -

When velocity of a body decreases the negative acceleration take place.

It is in the opposite direction of velocity.

i.e v<u

✒ Velocity

  • Velocity is defined as speed of an object in particular.
  • SI unit of velocity is m/s.
  • It is a vector quantity.
  • Velocity = Displacement/time.

-----------------------------------------

There are two types of velocity

1. Uniform Velocity

2. Non-uniform Velocity

Let understand the concept of velocity in detail.

-----------------------------------------

1. Uniform Velocity :-

When object cover equal distances in equal interval of time then uniform velocity take place.

2. Non-uniform Velocity :-

When object cover an unequal distances in equal interval of time then non-uniform velocity take place.

-----------------------------------------

-: Additional Information :-

-----------------------------------------

Velocity of an object can be changed by :-

  • Changing the speed of object.
  • Changing direction of body.
  • Changing both time and direction of object. (Both)

Average Velocity :-

  • The average velocity of an object is its total displacement divided by the total time taken. In other words, it is the rate at which an object changes its position from one place to another.
  • Average velocity is a vector quantity.
