Lucy Gray by William Wordsworth exemplifies the poet’s yearning for lost childhood as well as celebrates the divinity and spirituality of nature and humankind.  The poet seems to be paying tribute to the spirit of Lucy Gray and is like a eulogy which is still standing the test of time.  The following is a short summary of Lucy Gray:

Lucy Gray was a very sweet, joyful and innocent child who was growing up in the charming countryside of England.  She did not have many neighbors or friends as homes dotted wide expanses.  She found nature to be her delightful companion.  When her father asked little Lucy to bring her mother back home before a snowstorm hit the region, she gladly obliged.  She carried a lantern to help her along the way and joyfully trudged along the snow at noon.  Unfortunately, the snowstorm which was supposed to hit the region in the night arrived very early.  She lost her way in the snowstorm.  Her anguished parents searched for her through the night and the next day, and in the end, came to know that she had passed away.   However, according to local legend, her spirit could be felt in the region in the form of a supernatural apparition roaming the region all alone and singing cheerfully.
