Anther wall structure and functionThe anther normally consists of two lobes, each with two elongated microsporangia or pollen sacs. The anther lobes are fused together by the connective tissue . The filament connects the anther to the receptacle in the flower.

EPIDERMIS= outermost,single lyered and protective in function.

ENDOTHECIUM =cells of this layer have alpha cellulosic fibrous bands arising from inner tangential wall which help in dehiscence of anther due to their hygroscopic nature.

MIDDLE LAYER= cells of this layer are ephemeral (short lived) and are 1-3 layered. It degenerate at maturity.

TAPETUM= This ia the innermost layer of anther wall which surrounds the sporogenous tissue. Tapetal cell nourishes the dwveloping pollen grains.They are polyploid.
